Emma Watson
Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, also known as
Emma Watson is a British film actress who is widely known for
her role in Harry Potter as Hermione Granger. She was born in
15 April 1990 in Paris, France to lawyer parents Jacqueline and
Chris. She has a brother named Alex who is three years younger
than her. When Emma was five years old, her parents divorced
and this event forced her and her brother to move to
Oxfordshire to live with their mother. She had her earlier
education in The Dragon School, a private preparatory school
and she studied here until 2003. After that she shifted to an
all girl school named the Headington School. She attended the
GCSE examination in 2006 for ten subjects and won eight A+ and
two A grades.
Emma Watson does not have a boyfriend and she thinks that her
celebrity status is partly responsible for this. She says,
“Guys are either intimidated by me, or they have defences up,
or they like to take the piss out of me."
She was a very talented girl, not only in the studies but also
in a variety of fields like acting, poetry etc. At the age of
seven Emma won first prize in a school poetry competition.
When she was nine years old an agent who were in search of
young talents across Briton to audition for the parts of Harry,
Ron and Hermione found her and after several auditions she was
got selected for the role of Hermione in the Harry Potter film
series. Emma recalls that she auditioned for the part as
Hermione because her friends did and she thought it would “be a
laugh”, her drama teacher at the time recommended Emma to the
casting agents who obviously saw the same potential in her.

At the age of ten she starred in her first Harry Potter movie,
Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone –the first one in the
series of Harry Potter movies taken from the hugely popular
books written by J.K Rowling. The movie was a huge hit
worldwide and she got the kind of start for her career that she
really deserves.
Even though J.K Rowling had not yet met Emma, she told in a
phone conversation with her that Emma is absolutely perfect for
the role of Hermione. She also won critical acclaim from movie
critics all over the world for her performance in Harry Potter.
When her first Harry Potter movie released, she was ten years
old and she has since appeared in all subsequent Harry Potter
films: Chamber of Secrets (2002), Prisoner of Azkaban (2004),
and Goblet of Fire (2005), and has finished filming Order of
the Phoenix which is all set to release July 3 this year.
Earlier in 2007 some sources reported that she refused to sign
contract to appear in the final two Harry Potter films but in
late March this year her commitment to those final two films
was confirmed by Warner brothers.
She is extremely committed to her character Hermione in the
Harry Potter series "I could never let Hermione go--she is my
hero! I love her too much and love what playing her has meant
to me. I am excited and honoured to be finishing what I started
and playing her in all seven of the films” she said in an
interview.
Just like in the movie which made her so famous, her real life
is also full of magical things. She loves art and poetry. She
also loves sports like Hockey, netball, tennis, table tennis,
rounders, and golf. Her favourite pass time activities are
spending time with her family, dancing, singing and traveling.
Her musical interests include singing, hip hop, blues, and
classic rock, including Eminem, Eric Clapton, U2 and Nelly
Furtado.
She also played Hermione in a special mini episode of Harry
Potter named the ‘The Queen's Handbag’ in celebration of the
queens 80th birthday.
At the age of fifteen she became the youngest person to appear
on the cover of the Teen Vogue magazine by shattering the
previous record of Willa Holland. She also served as one of the
four juries to select the 2004 teen-aged filmmakers' "First
Light" for the Film Award ceremony in Leicester Square in
London along with Pierce Brosnan, Kenneth Branagh and Samantha
Morton.
She won the Otto silver award for best female film star in 2003
and also won Best Female Child Artist: Phoenix Film Critics
Society, for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. And in
2006 she won a best female film star gold award from Otto.
She loves watching movies and few of her favourite films are
Shawshank Redemption, Dirty Dancing, Gladiator, Braveheart,
Grease, Pride and Prejudice, Amelie, Shrek 1 & 2, Finding Nemo,
Four Weddings and a Funeral, Pretty Women, Romeo and Juliet,
Moulin Rouge and Closer.
May be you also wanting to know about her favourite snacks,
well here it is, she loves Toast, Smoothies, and the Chocolate
and Cream Starbucks Frappuccino. And do you know that she has
got two pet cats named Bubbles and Domino.
She may be a big celebrity now but she still loves hanging out
with friends and likes to be treated like a normal teenager.
